Is an Apprenticeship Right for You?

August 22, 2018

Here at SME Broker Services, we love apprentices! We have dedicated apprentices in the administration department, who manage the balance between career and education. We've taken time to ask Charlotte Harris & Trinity Graydon all about their experiences with apprenticeships.

How did you hear about the apprenticeship here at SME Broker Services?

Through a friend who was working here already.

What is your field and what made you want to get into it?
I decided to get into administration as I found the idea of working in an office interesting and my family were all doing that sort of thing, which helps with the coursework side of it when I am home.

What is your favourite thing about being an apprentice?
It gives you a lot of learning opportunities so I can progress my skills and knowledge and learn how to work more efficiently and more confidently in my role. It gives you practical hands on experience you don’t get in colleges, which I find much more engaging.

What would you tell someone thinking about becoming an apprentice?
I recommend it because you learn the necessary skills and development by actually DOING the job rather than sitting in a college doing coursework and written assignments. Plus the bonus of having the experience already to your name which a lot of my friends struggled with after college.

How did you hear about the apprenticeship here at SME Broker Services?
I found the job posting over on Indeed, it was a really simple application process.

What is your field and what made you want to get into it?
I’m part of the admin team at SME Broker Services. I wanted a career in admin as it’s a reputable career path that opens a lot of doors in every industry essentially since pretty much every company will need someone to do administration work.

What is your favourite thing about being an apprentice?
I’m really enjoying learning more and more every day, I can feel myself getting better and better at the work as we continue with our apprenticeships.

What would you tell someone thinking about becoming an apprentice?
It’s worth doing. It's a great atmosphere for young adults to learn amongst more experienced individuals, that kind of insight is so valuable as opposed to sitting in a classroom.
